  • Students Teaching Students Math

    Students used the Show Me App on an iPad to record short lessons about different Math topics. Students who struggle, then, can sit with the iPad and see a demo lesson on a topic of difficulty in order to reinforce the content. The lesson not only helps the students viewing the demo lessons, but it also helps the students creating the Show Me lessons to speak clearly and explain math topics in detail.

  • HOMEWORK OR NO TO HOMEWORK THAT IS OUR DEBATE!

    After reading different kinds of persuasive articles, some students, wrote about the pros and cons of having homework. Then, the students supported their thesis with evidence on why they should get homework or why they should not get homework.

  • People Who Make P.S. 102 A Very Special School

    An important reading and writing unit for third grade is biography. Students have been immersing themselves in learning about the lives of notable individuals -- both past and present. This project will allow students to apply their knowledge of the genre to create their own oral/visual biographies. Using Flips, students will interview various personnel at P.S. 102: teachers, paraprofessionals, business manager, parent coordinator and security guard. The interviews will then be uploaded onto the school's website.

  • Student engagement with Student Response Systems

    Students were engaged in a math lesson using Student Response Systems (SRS). The lesson had students working on the measurement of angles and talking about and identifying the difference between an obtuse and acute angle. Students then used the SRS to send in their answers of the measurements they came up with on a worksheet they were given. Material was then reviewed if less than 75% of the class got the answer right.

  • Word Study Centers through iPads

    Students will work in centers that are based on Donald Bear's "Words Their Way" developmental stages to address differentiated spelling needs. The fifth graders in classes 323 and 325 practice word study, twice a week in 5 small groups. Each group focuses on a different spelling feature that they struggle with. The instructor works personally with one group, a second group uses SmartPens to practice their fluency, while the other 3 use Ipads to direct and track their activities.

  • Using Ipads for Book Club Reflection

    Students use Ipads to record their book club conversations. These videos are reviewed by students at the start of the following book meeting. Learners reflect on their own performance/preparation, and then immediately make adjustments to their participation in book club conversation based on the reflection.

    The teacher also has access to the videos, which upon review, create opportunities to gather data on both individual and group preparation / performance.

    -Students use a handout, provided by T, to guide the written aspect of the reflection.

  • Colonial America

    The Fifth Grade students used student response systems to do a self paced review on Colonial America. They also uploaded information (pictures and data) they gathered from the internet/reference materials into their wikispace (http://stpaulcorrea.wikispaces.com).

  • Shark Diversity

    Students are using Wikispaces and computers to learn about shark diversity. A plethora of sharks swim in the sunlight and twilight zone of the ocean. There is a myth that sharks attack people. However, during our research it was discovered that most sharks seldom attack people and when they do there are circumstances that cause the attack. Our project immerses students in the discovery of shark attacks via focusing on habitat, diet, characteristics, species type and such.

    Students are researching the impact of 6 women in American history using computers and wikispaces. Students will learn about the early years of these women as well as their education and contributions to society.

  • Students Teaching Other Students about Math

    Students are creating tutorials that they can access remotely, as well as share with other students across the city, and perhaps across the country! Students, in groups of 3 and 4, will create a 2 to 4 minute tutorial/lesson using the 'Show Me' app on iPads. These tutorials will then be uploaded on to a class website.

  • Fascinating Fables

    Students will be able to use the story kit application on the iPad in order to publish their short fables. While reading traditional literature, students will be able to identify themes, morals, and story elements. After studying, students will begin to create their very own fables including the elements of traditional literature that they studied while reading.

  • Creating Historical Fiction Cartoons Using Toontastic for iPad

    Students create historical fiction cartoons using the Toontastic app for iPad to reinforce their understanding of key story principles and encourage creative application of social studies content knowledge-  pioneer life during the westward expansion of the United States in the first half of the 19th century.
